“Sylen has always been important to the me. For many years when Cynheidre Colliery was in full production I drove across the mountain to and from work and, at times walked under it, as did the men who worked in Shaft 1 and Shaft 2. On a clear day it was possible to see counties and on a dull, cloudy days I remember the Welsh Blacks being moved from the opposite side. I feel I know so many of the families from the different farms. The poems in this book, I hope, will express gratitude for many people who gave the friendship which was a part of my life”. poems. A rough stretch of mountain with a view of many counties. The original book published in 1978 by Hub publications Ltd is now out of print. Sylen Revisited has been part of the programme 'Exploration' in Sound and Word which has been performed with a group of musicians who 'listen intently to the sounds they hear and begin to contribute their own responding and interacting with each other.' A celebration of a run of public performances was held last July in the home of Phyllis M. Jones, attended by musicians - and their wives plus friends and family of the author. |
