New People in an Old World! New collection of stories written after many years spent in varied environments. Some with a Cornish influence, the source not surprising as it was my family's place of birth and where I spent my youth, watching and absorbing words and actions from surrounding friends and family. I saw how they dealt with the current dramas in their lives. Later it was the significance of words and actions of people I met during my work so far away from home. These were new sounds, apart from my Cornish dialect there were phrases I heard frequently in the community, a rural valley or in the mountain vicinity. The phrases became important and at times lingered. I wondered if there was any experience which had instigated their words and, in wondering, found these stories.
I have been helped in the preparation of this collection, generously, by my niece Patricia Mee, and must express real gratitude for all the hard work involving her time and con¬centration. |
